Why a renewal notice looks different from last year’s

A renewal notice that does not match last year can feel like a surprise. Most differences come from a short list of causes.

Your details

A birthday, a new address, a new driver, a change in annual mileage or a claim on record can all move the numbers. Check that the details printed on the notice are right.

The vehicle

A car gets older and its value changes, and a repair or a change in how it is used can matter as well. The notice shows the vehicle as the insurer has it recorded.

Rating and rules

Insurers revise their own rating methods and states revise regulations. A change on the insurer’s side can show up even when nothing about you changed.

A line-by-line read

Place last year’s declarations page beside the new one and look at each coverage, limit and deductible. If something is unclear, ask your insurer. We do not see policies or give quotes.

Keep the paperwork as tidy as the car.
